Reviving Spirit Of Beacon Day - Donation Jar

The Spirit of Beacon Day started in 1977 as a solution to providing a platform for Beaconites (and everyone attending) to understand each other better. In 1977, racial tensions between the teenagers at Beacon High School and the community culminated into two days and nights of unrest. Different community groups got together, including churches, the police, the library, and many others, to brainstorm (see the full history here).

The result was a parade and festival showcasing the kid and adults of Beacon, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and other entities who provide affordable, unique and creative opportunities to them. Faith-based groups encounter so many community members on a daily basis in a variety of capacities, and they have special insight.

The pandemic of 2020 put this parade and celebration on pause - despite the heroic effort to host it virtually and with a car parade. Now, for its 45th year, WE ARE BACK!

THEME

The theme of this year's 45th Spirit of Beacon Day is: "The Origin Story" We never want to forget why this day was started in 1977. It is unique to Beacon's history. We will always need to understand, respect and empathize with each other's lived experiences.

DONATING

We are seeking donations from the community. People from the community expressed the desire to contribute, so this GoFundMe is the best way! We are fundraising both to our businesses and to regular, everyday people. Please please please shop from Main Street businesses to support these entrepreneurs who support you every.single.day.

EXPENSES

Thank you for donating! This day has grown and grown, and does have expenses. Like to rent porta-potties, stage and sound equipment, stipends for the schools for their amazing efforts at building floats or marches, paying the bagpipe band and some other performers, etc. Plus, we want to have a cushion for next year so that we are not running on empty to quickly fundraise.
