Re-Volt: Recharging a Legacy
Donation protected
Thank you for your interest! Fifteen senior design students at Colorado School of Mines (Golden, CO) worked for all of 2020 to convert a 1979 Volkswagen Bus from gas to electric power (revoltswagen.com). The school covered only a fraction of the project expenses, so any donations are very appreciated, and you can get a free Re-Volt sticker with each donation!
The Re-Volt team successfully pushed the limits of what is possible and incorporated an unprecedented 95.2 kWh into the VW Bus conversion. This will empower the bus to reach the design goals of a 250-mi. range and a comfortable highway cruising speed of 70-80mph, while retaining the car camping capability. Check out our promo video here!
The team worked tirelessly throughout the spring and fall semesters of 2020 and the efforts culminated in winning 1st place Best Overall , Best Societal Impact, and Best Website at the Colorado School of Mines Capstone Design Showcase in December 2020.
Our fundraising efforts are to fund the battery purchases. The batteries are the heftiest price tag on this project; 18 batteries (at ~$1,100/ea) are required to achieve the 250-mile range needed by the clients. We are so grateful to anyone who can help us reach our $19,800 goal!
Our team member and client, Gracie Cole , has a long history with this bus; her parents bought it new in 1979, before she was born, and this bus has been like a family member. We are ecstatic to have augmented performance, reliability, and relevance, as the momentum toward electric vehicles in the 21st century is in full swing.
Thank you SO MUCH for your support to enable our success!
