Our good friend and colleague recently received news that no one wants to hear... At age 41, Kim, a wife and mom of three adorable little boys was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called myeloma. The news was especially distressing to Kim and her family because her dad passed away from this same cancer when she was only 23.
“Anyone that knows me knows that I am a fierce competitor and that I HATE to lose. I’m treating this fight the same way, this cancer will not beat me without a hell of a fight”.
This quote embodies Kim’s spirit perfectly and was part of her statement when she informed her friends and family of her devestating diagnosis. Kim gave up her career in the financial world to pursue her passion for nursing. Any patient of hers is lucky to have a such a compassionate, selfless, and intelligent nurse.
She is truly the life of the party and would do anything for her friends. Kim's life revolves around her husband, John, and her three boys: Jonny, Will, and Jake. She is an absolute powerhouse who never stops! If she’s not picking up extra shifts at work, you can be sure to find her at the hockey rink or soccer field watching her boys! Kim’s goal is to be around as long as possible for her family.
Kim's Plan of Attack:
Kim qualified and entered a clinical trial at Dana Farber to start on May 10th. Due to the upcoming treatment, Kim will be unable to continue to work full time because of her compromised health. After she receives a stem cell transplant, it is likely she will not be able to return to work due to the risk of infection. It will be a challenge to manage on one income during this difficult time.
How You Can Help:
Kim is not one to ask for help, so as her friends we are asking for her. This Go Fund Me is to raise money to help ease the burden on Kim and her family, while they are dealing with the many challenges that they face. Whatever the contribution, it is most appreciated. Thank you for your support!
