Pandora's amputation

Pandora has been with Small Animal Rescue Coventry since December 2023. It was disclosed to us that she had been limping since a toy had wrapped around her leg 4 months before. On arrival it was clear that significant damage had been caused but this incident. Pandora's back left paw was MISSING. The toy had wrapped tightly enough around her leg and for long enough to cut off the blood supply and cause the paw to become irreversibly necrotic and fall off naturally. The pain and stress this poor girl would have suffered in those months is unimaginable as her paw slowly decayed off...

When she arrived at SARC we made a promise she would never have to suffer such neglect ever again. Pandora's stump was accessed by a vet and treated for the infection that was present. Amputation was discussed due to the placement of the remaining bone being quite close to the end with little cushioning. Removing a hind limb on a rabbit is a big operation and the implantation on their balance and mobility is often very difficult for them to adjust with a lot of extra ongoing support needed. As Pandora had recovered from the infection and her stump was stable and she was using it to weight bare Amputation was not the route to go down at the time.

Pandora became a Sanctuary rabbit and we have been monitoring and treating her ongoing stump problems since. Sadly in recent weeks Pandora's stump has begun to get inflamed and cause pain so Pandora has not been weight baring despite pain relief. Given the daily treatments Pandora requires and the deterioration of her mobility it has been decided that Amputation is the best option for her to eliminate the constant management of her stump and keep her out of pain.

Pandora has showed she can cope on three legs and so the operation shouldn't be too much of an adjustment for her after over a year of having no paw.

Pandora is booked in for her operation next week but we need you help to fund her life changing op. We are keeping our promise to keep this sweet girl out of pain but all medical treatment comes at a cost. If you are able to donated even £1 Pandora would really appreciate your kindness.
