Funeral expenses Harry K. Mead(Rex)
Donation protected
My brother, Harry K. Mead II, passed away suddenly from pancreatic cancer March 17, 2015. Donations are being accepted for funeral and other expenses due to financial hardship.
About 5 years ago he had his first bout with cancer. Prostate cancer and he beat it.
Ready to enjoy life cancer free, he wanted to live some place beautiful. He found that place in Utah and was happy.
In 2014 he was disagnosised with bladder cancer. His bladder was removed to keep the cancer from spreading. A colostomy bag was attached to his side to replace his bladder. While it was difficult to get used to caring for himself with this bag attached to him, he managed fairly well after healing.
Feb 2015 I received an urgent call from my cousin. She said my brother was very sick and dying. This was a surprise. My brother and I talked several times a week and he only mentioned briefly that he thought he was turning yellow and was feeling tired and weak.
She said if I want to see him alive, come now. One day later, my daughter and I flew from Virginia to Utah to see him.
He looked so bad. He was very weak. A horrid yellow tinge covered his body.
The doctor said he had pancreatic cancer and needed surgery the next day to see what they could do for the cancer. A large tumor was wrapped around part of his pancreas and a stint was placed in there to drain the bile. It worked! Slowly his color came back to normal.
But 2 days later we got the bad news. His cancer was terminal. He had less than 6 months to live. I had 5 days to help get his affairs in order.
After I got back home, he would call me everyday, as usual, telling me how great he felt and that he was going to be around for quite a while longer. Unfortunately, 5 weeks after I came home, Hospice called to say he had passed away in his sleep, with his dog Luke by his side.
I couldn't believe it. It was so sudden! He had been feeling so good and was really happy. A happiness he had not felt before. Others I have talked to, even Hospice, say that the peace and happiness the terminally ill feel has been known to happen right before death. Maybe that's God's gift to the sick.
Some wonderful things have come out of this sadness though. I got to see my bother one last time. My daughter, who had not seen her uncle in 6 years, got to see him one last time. He got to watch her bond with his dog. It was his wish for her to take his dog after he passed. To love him and be his friend.
To help keep this promise, my friend is driving Luke to us from Utah to Virginia.
I simply do not have the money to close his affairs. I need help with his funeral expenses and other bills.
He was a good brother.
