Relief for the Edward family

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gabrielle, and I am trying to raise funds for my dear friends Charlie and Sadie Edward.

As some of you may have seen or heard, Sadie and Charlie had a flood in their basement that covered every inch of their space. This happened in the early hours of July 13th during the rainstorm that went through Elmvale. Their sump pump was pumping as much water out of the house as possible, but couldn't keep up with the amount of rain coming down. Sadie and Charlie had roughly 4 inches of water throughout their entire basement. They immediately called their insurance to have an emergency crew rip up the brand-new carpet, baseboards, doors and bathroom to prevent mould from growing.
The emergency crews also sent an electrician to their house to add more power to their basement so they could run about 14 industrial fans and dehumidifiers.
The cost alone to have the emergency crew at their house was roughly $20,000. The insurance for this specific type of flooding only covered $11,800, leaving them with the remaining balance, along with the big heap of damaged goods to remove at their own expense.

This has been a devastating loss for the Edward family. Sadie and Charlie had just finished renovating the space in 2021. They live in a bungalow and spend half their time in the basement. Their three young daughters have lost their entire play area and family "hangout" spot, along with the majority of their belongings; from sleeping bags, winter hats, boots, coats, Halloween costumes, stuffed animals and toys, couches, electronics, their Christmas tree, family photo albums, and more.

I have known Sadie and Charlie for many years. They both work hard to provide for their family. They are the type of people to give the shirts off their backs to their friends, family and community whenever needed. They "support local" and give to their community even when they are struggling. This family has never asked for help, and I think it's time for them to see what happens when you ask for help from the community.

At this time, we're calling upon friends, family, colleagues and Simcoe County residents (and anyone else) who would like to help donate so Sadie and Charlie can rent a dumpster bin (or organize a dump run) to remove the wet destroyed items that are still currently in their basement, and to replace some of the items (carpets, doors, couch, toys) that were lost. They also need to fix the root cause of the flood to prevent this from happening again.

I'm optimistic that with the help of our community the Edward family can purchase a new sofa and area rug for their basement, along with a few toys to help make their daughters feel at home, until they can move forward with the costs of renovating their basement (again).

If you are unable to donate at this time, it would be much appreciated if you could share this with your friends to help this wonderful family out.

Thank you!
