After winning Second Place ( K-3 under 1000) in the SuperNationals VI, the largest rated chess tournament in US history, with the final tally of 5577 participants, set in Nashville, TN, on May 11-14, combining Elementary, Junior High and High School Nationals, and held every four years, Gabriella, a third grader from Atlanta, GA is asking for your help in her effort to assist a group of disadvantaged girls, her age, in getting acquainted and improving with chess as a path to success, in an invitational chess camp (1st Annual Queens of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Invitational Chess Camp) to be held on the week of July 10-14 in La Feria (near Brownsville), TX where La Feria Independent School District (La Feria ISD) has agreed to provide a suitable venue at no charge, instructors Russell (Rusty) Harwood, and JJ Guajardo have agreed to donate their time, and Gabriella has agreed to assist Mr. Harwood in both the instruction effort, and the fundraising. The expected attendance is fifty (50) girls. The cost of chess camp t-shirts, incentives (books, caps, key chains, etc.), healthy snacks, chess boards, and fundraising fee cost has been estimated in two thousand two hundred dollars ($2200). Your contribution of any amount, as small as one dollar ($1), can help us showing these girls that the sky is the limit, and chess is one of the most valuable tools they can use to succeed, not only in school, but in life.
