Rachel Bruno was just celebrating her last chemotherapy treatment and was turned away from a (Indianapolis, IN) north-side entertainment center because of what she was wearing( knitted cap). Really?! In the wake of Indianapolis's controversial RFRA law (Religious Freedom Restoration Act) there has been some controversy involving some of Indiana's establishments. In response to RFRA alot of Indy's businesses have posted signs in their windows stating, "WE SERVE ALL" and "WE LOVE ALL". Well, that didn't last long. I just feel that this news story happened for a reason. I've spoken with her but dont really know her but this story really touched me. I've never done anything like this. Shes HAD CANCER TWICE!!! SHES NOT DONE YET EITHER! Because she has asthema it has complicated her treatments. She has to go through a special therapy 90 minutes a day for 6 more weeks until they can move forward with her next treatment!! I cant even imagine how many medical bills she has!
(PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING STORY)
Rachel Bruno met her family Saturday afternoon at a North side entertainment venue. It was one of her first outings since finishing chemotherapy on April 1, but it wasn't long before the celebration was cut short.
Doctors diagnosed the 33-year-old with cancer for a second time after she beat it once in 2008. Bruno is currently bald from the chemo treatments and almost always wears a winter cap to cover her head.
The restaurant's employees believed Bruno’s knitted hat was in violation of the company's dress code that prohibits skullcaps, bandanas, brimless hats and stocking caps. She was asked to leave. They told them that she had cancer, and that didn't stop them!
"I was devastated. I was disappointed because at that point, my heart actually hurt for her. Because it's not her fault that she's had to deal with cancer a second time. When you try to go outside to have a few moments of enjoyment to try to feel better, and here you are turned away … it's not fair," Bruno's sister Alicia Murray said Wednesday.
Bruno took matters into her own hands and posted her story on Facebook Saturday evening. It wasn’t long before the business was bombarded with comments and feedback.
An executive with business has since apologized about what he calls an embarrassing mistake. He said while employees were following policy, they got it wrong in this case.
The establishment has apoligized for the incident. I believe that she deserves something way more than that!!! Something PRICELESS!!! When someone doesnt even know you and they reach into their heart and poor it out the love for you! Please donate to help her out, NOW THAT'S PRICELESS!
please excuse any puncuation/literacy errors, Im not use to this sort of thing.
All proceeds/deposits have been turned over to her sister Alicia L. Bruno-Murray. Rachel and her have complete control of the funds. Thank you
