Theresa Corbin is a wonderful wife, caring mother, dedicated Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, and fantastic friend. Her coworkers would like to share her story with you:
During the summer of 2013, Theresa's father lost his battle with cancer. Her husband was recovering from a debiliting diagnosis of encephalitis. A week later, in the midst of her grief and sorrow, Theresa was diagnosed with leukemia after noticing unusual bruising and being overly fatigued. She remained true to her personality.....she fought...and she fought HARD! She never wallowed in self pity....she never questioned God's plan.....she stayed positive and strong for her friends and family. And....she BEAT cancer!! Well...kind of...we thought! The doctors told Theresa that she had gone into remission in January of 2014. However, her labs never were really reflective of this. Shortly after returning to work in the NICU, she had to resign due to lack of energy and low blood counts. Turns out -- the cancer was back or never really gone. In preparation for stem cell transplant, Theresa began a chemo regiment which unexpectedly led to a bleed that damaged the optic nerve. She is currently blind in her left eye and unfortunately this may be permanent. An extensive hospital stay and very invasive surgery followed. Shortly after discharge, she was receiving a platelet transfusion and went into flash pulmonary edema, requiring yet another hospital admission into the ICU. The current plan is to move Theresa closer to her oncologist in Charlotte, NC. However, in order to do this, she will require housing. This will all be out of pocket and is in addition to medical costs. When you work so closely with someone as wonderful as Theresa, you can't be "unaffected". Our team is attempting to raise funds in order to alleviate some of these financial burdens so that Theresa can concentrate on finally beating cancer once and for all!
