*********************************************************************************

Rhea’s vibrant, colorful, and huge personality was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. No one was prepared to lose such a kindred soul affectionately known as R.J., RiRi and of course her poetry name – RootsGirl.

Rhea was known for her poetic articulation of words, with a passion and commitment to community and helping others. We can all remember the collective efforts she made in raising and giving much-needed items to Houstonians affected by Hurricane Harvey; she was a giver and stayed prepared to face and overcome the challenges of life.

In 2017 the unexpected snuck in and Rhea’s health began to decline, battling both diabetes and cardiac complications. This forced her into disability, which lead her returning to Kansas City in the spring of 2018. On July 4, 2019, Rhea’s heart stopped while in the hospital and she was given a low prognosis, BUT GOD. She fought for her life and God saw fit to bring her back to finish her purpose; she was a fighter. Despite a kidney transplant in 2022 and her fight to gain strength to live, she remained weakened.

We feel it is necessary to share Rhea’s efforts of preparedness in how she was among the first in our sisterhood to have an advance directive, last will, testament and life insurance. She did the right thing but when her health failed, forcing her out of work, she was simply unable to maintain the policies.

Rhea’s love and commitment to her son, family and friends are unquestionable and now we have an opportunity to give back to her when it is needed the most. If you are led, we – our Sisterhood of Friends - are seeking donations to provide a proper burial for a mom, daughter, sister and friend – our dear Rhea.
