“I Deaf-initely Can” Children's Book

Hi y'all!

 

I will share a bit of who I am :) My name is Karlie. I was born deaf and raised in Texas. I am employed as an Itinerant Deaf Education Teacher out of Weatherford, Texas! Rhett is an Australian Cattle Dog that I adopted back in 2018 and, just like me, he is also deaf! We decided to make a social media account on Instagram at @rhett_the_heeler to educate the world about our deafness and how amazing deaf dogs are! Rhett and I have grown a wonderful family on Instagram! They have inspired us to share our journey and story with the younger generation by writing a children's book. Rhett has a unique perspective on life as a deaf dog, left behind at a shelter. Today he is living his best life with his deaf mom, family, and friends!

 

Stages of my Children's Book (Book title to be announced soon) 

I signed a contract to work with Lucy Rodgers, a deaf illustrator who lives in the UK! She is super talented! If I am going all-in, I wanted to use an experienced children's book illustrator who is deaf. I hope to raise some funds to pay for some of the illustrations as it put me at almost $6,000. This does not include the cost of the self-publishing part of the process. I will do whatever it takes to get this unique and special book published to all of our young readers! I am trying to positively impact those who love dogs, have different abilities, our Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing communities, educators, etc. So be on the lookout for September to get your book! We are so excited to spread awareness about deaf dogs all over the world!
