Rhilynne's battle

Donation protected
Hi, This beautiful girl, Rhilynne, is my very close friend's granddaughter who has been fighting for her life.
On August 12th 2023, Rhilynne was rushed to her local emergency room due to an asthma attack. The hospital administered puffers, oxygen, nebulizer treatments and steroids with no success or improvement. They then put her on a high flow oxygen machine to try and force oxygen into her lungs. She was eventually transported to McMaster hospital. At McMaster’s, her breathing became worse and she had to be intubated which for someone with asthma is a last option because unfortunately it is not easy to come back from. Around 10pm that night the doctor’s informed her family they had done everything they could, and that she would be transferred to Sick Kids Hospital to be placed on life support. Arriving at Sick Kids hours later, she was placed on a paralyzer respirator and put into an induced coma. Thankfully, they were able to place her on a new device that forced an anesthetic into her lungs. She is only the 2nd person ever to be offered this treatment at Sick Kids. This medication helped her lungs to relax, and with the help of the ventilator her lungs started to sound clearer. Unfortunately, every time they tried to reduce sedatives and the paralyzer, her stats would drop and they would have to put it back up. After a week of treatment, she began to run a high fever and her stats dropped dramatically. This is when she was diagnosed with Malignant Hypothermia, and was unable to continue the anesthetic treatment in her lungs. They had to treat the Hypothermia twice, causing the family to almost lose her once again. Still holding an extremely high fever, on the ventilator and lots of medication she was then diagnosed with Staphylococcus in her blood. Finally on August 21st, she was able to work with the ventilator and do some breathing on her own. After 2 days of improvement, on August 23rd she was then diagnosed with pneumonia in her right lung. Her fever once again began to rise. Her right lung collapsed later thar day. By August 25th after showing some improvement, she was able to return to McMaster after Sick Kids had completed the treatment, they were able to administer that McMaster could not. She has since started to suffer with delirium and hallucinations from the sedatives and pain medication. Her body has depleted quickly with strength, muscle mass and coordination.

At this point, doctors believe she will need months, possibly years of all kinds of treatment.
Her mom will be required to stay with her throughout it all. She will need a minimum of 8-12 months of treatment and will likely require a wheelchair.

Dad is still working and along with grandma and their two teenage boys the family has pulled together to help and support each other through this emotional rollercoaster ride.
This however, has taken an emotional, physicall and financial toll on their family.
Mom has had to take a leave from work to be by Rhilynne's side and will continue to be home with her for a very long time when she is released from hospital.

Any help at all will be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support in any way.
Please keep Rhilynne and her family in your prayers and please send positive energy to her.
