The Ridgewood High School Support Our Troops Club in Ridgewood, New Jersey,  is dedicated to supporting active-duty service members, reservists, and veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The club was formed in 2019 and aims to bring awareness about the importance of US military affairs to our surrounding communities. This past Memorial Day weekend, the RHS SOT club kicked off its first major fundraising campaign to celebrate the heroes who have sacrificed their lives in the defense of this great nation.

In honor of the twenty-two US military veterans that commit suicide each day, SOT Vice President Matt Rusch, a sophomore at RHS, spent Friday, May 22nd, 2020, completing a 22-mile ruck march. With a 50-pound ruck on his back, symbolizing the unified 50 states, Matt traveled through Allendale, Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Hawthorne, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Ridgewood, Waldwick, and Wyckoff in heavy rain. His efforts emphasized how important it is to express our patriotism and support for the military every day, but especially in these trying times.

On Saturday, May 23rd, Matt braved a second day of downpours. He walked through Ridgewood's Central Business District for nearly seven hours with a sign that read, "Honk If You Love Our Troops." The rain didn't put a damper on the support and gratitude for our military shown by Ridgewood's local businesses and residents.

On Sunday, May 24th, using bigger and better signs, Matt again encouraged people to, "Honk If You Love Our Troops", this time for over ten hours. Ridgewood residents of all ages stopped to show their love and appreciation for our armed forces.

For Memorial Day 2020, the RHS Support Our Troops Club did its best to remind our service members that every day, in our hearts, and in our thoughts, we are eternally grateful for your service and sacrifice. May God bless our troops and the United States of America!
