A memorial for Riccardo Amodeo
Donation protected
In 2000 my brother was diagnosed with a very rare neurological condition called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) which is a terminal disease that typically leads to death 2-5 years after diagnosis.
ALD causes degeneration of the nervous system and leads to a progressive loss of physical and mental skills eventually becoming fully dependent. Over the years, my brother lost the ability to see, communicate, eat and move.
Due to his condition he was unable to tolerate anxiety or stress. His body was unable to produce the hormone Cortisol to cope with stress experienced such as changes to his environment or unfamiliarity in general.
He was unable to communicate in a two-way process and needed familiarity and consistency to have his dynamic and complex needs interpreted.
Riccardo was only given 6 months to live when he was diagnosed in 2000, but due to the care and love from his mother lived a lot longer. During the years, his mother had to battle to get nurses to help look after Riccardo who needed 24/7 care. She gave all her time to make sure he could have the care he deserved and the best life possible.
Riccardo sadly passed away at home on the 23rd of December 2022 from a chest infection.
We're looking for money to fund his funeral and memorial.
