Rice Cookers for La Jornada Food Pantry
Tax deductible
We need large (restaurant-grade) electric rice cookers for our volunteers to feed people at La Jornada food pantry, located in the Bland Houses (public housing project) in downtown Flushing, Queens. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the volunteers have packed and distributed emergency food assistance to 10,000 of our neighbors every week, many of whom have lost their jobs or businesses and are now facing eviction, homelessness, and food insecurity.
The old rice cookers used by Marisol and Sandra are slow and cannot fully cook all the rice we need to feed the people who show up to help every Saturday. Based on our research, we estimate it will cost us $500 to purchase two large modern (restaurant-grade) rice cookers that will help Marisol and Sandra prepare the daily meals for all our volunteers. Please consider making a small donation and sharing this GoFundMe with your network. Anything we raise over $500 will be used to purchase additional kitchen equipment and supplies. Thank you!
