Help the Rice Family
Donation protected
On August 30, an electrical fire started in the guest bedroom of the basement of the Rice Family's home while they were on vacation. They are very thankful that no one was home or injured.
Unfortunately, the flames quickly spread to the upper levels of their house causing extensive damage and ulimately causing the county to condemn their home.
While the family sorts through their next steps, they will live in a hotel before hopefully moving into a rental property while they rebuild and repair their home. Friends of the family are raising money to try and help them get back on their feet and assist in covering expenses to buy essential items for their girls who start school next week including shoes, warmer clothes and jackets.
Carrie and James along with their children - Caroline (7), Emily (4.5) and Margaret (2.5) - only have the beach attire they brought with them on vacation when the fire ignited. While some clothes and furnishings survived the fire, they must be professionally restored from the smoke and soot damage which can take months. All of the girls' toys and many essential items were destroyed by the fire.
We appreciate the community's help in helping them rebuild their lives after such a tragic loss.
Any money not used will be donated to the Arlington Food Assistance Center.
