Rich Lennington was born and raised in Syracuse, Kansas, but has spent much of his adult life in Goodland, Kansas. Many knew him as “Richie,” or "Little Richie.” His children, Brooke who is 25-years-old, and Hunter, 20-years-old, just knew him as dad. Recently his children have had to deal with issues know children as young as them would’ve ever expected.
On the night of November 14th, while making a bowl of chili at this apartment in Goodland, Rich had a stroke. For several hours he laid on the floor trying to reach his phone to call for help. By the time EMT’s got to him it was very apparent what had happened to rich, he had a stroke.
That night Rich was flown to the Swedish Medical Center near Denver, Colorado. He was on a ventilator for days, and in the ICU for about three weeks before being transferred to a different floor. The entire left side of his body was affected by the stroke, preventing him from eating, walking, or moving his left arm at all. At this point an acute rehab facility is the only thing that may save him, and help him truly get better. Rich just turned 50-years-old in August, so he's young and a fighter. It would break his childrens hearts to have to send their dad to a nursing home at such a young age.
His daughter Brooke lives and works in Topeka. She has found a great facility there, the ‘Topeka Rehabilitation Hospital,’ that will allow her to visit him on a daily basis, as well as Hunter who lives in Manhattan and is attending K-State. Unfortunately insurance will not cover the transportation to move him from Denver to Topeka. Due to him still having a feed tube, he has to be transferred via amabulance. Also, his kids are now having to take on the task of getting all his finances in order entirely by themselves. They would love to hire an attorney to help them sort through things and help Rich get on disability while he’s going through rehab, but money is starting to get very tight.
