Richard - 2025 Tokyo - Running for Gold Ribbon Network
Donation protected
I am running the Tokyo Marathon for charity in March 2025. This will be my 6th and final “star” in a journey to run the Abbot 6 World Major Marathons for cancer charities. I set the lofty goal at the 2019 NYC Marathon and the finish line is in sight. Only 26.2 miles left (plus the training miles).
My mother Rosemary died of cancer in 2019; fundraising for the American Cancer Society and running the NYC marathon was a way to celebrate her life. I continue to run and fundraise in her honor, but my purpose has grown in 5 years, to include so many more people affected by cancer. My father is now a survivor. There are survivors - and caretakers - among my coworkers in fitness and my friends. Cancer is relentless; but so are we. For the Tokyo marathon I'm raising money for the Japan-based charity, Gold Ribbon Network.
Gold Ribbon Network is dedicated to 'Enhance the Quality of Life of Children Affected by Cancer'; one of their programs provides college scholarships to survivors of childhood cancer. You can see more about this organization at https://www.goldribbon.jp/english.
To date I have raised over $42K fundraising for the American Cancer Society and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My goal is to reach and surpass $50K dollars raised for cancer with the Tokyo Marathon and the completion of the 6 world majors.
Thank you for your support so far! We’re almost there!
