Richard Gary Cancer Journey

Hi, I am Taylor Pursley and I am raising funds for Richard and Jessica Gary.

At the end of July 2022, Richard had noticed reflux issues, doctor referred him to a GI specialist and had a scope procedure done, the doctor said he had Barrett’s esophagus, and that he had seen a few spots and went ahead and took biopsy of those. At this time Jessica was a couple months away from welcoming their first child together in September.

August 22, 2022 Richard was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. He has been undergoing treatment since and fighting his battles hard for his family. Karsyn Paige (6 months now) is here with her mama, daddy and brother Ian and giving them all the reason to fight this even harder.

Richard recently was told his cancer had aggressively spread to the flap that covers his intestines and the immunotherapy had caused him to have horrible side effects. They stopped radiation and will be using another form of chemotherapy.

Unfortunately Richard is currently at Duke, after suffering multiple strokes, and is now experiencing complications with his kidneys. At this point they are waiting for answers and to hopefully continue his chemotherapy to help stop the cancer from spreading, however with complications everything is on hold until they can answer the why and cause to prevent any further strokes or outcomes.

There is no timeline for when Richard will be home, and Jessica is right by his side. Baby Karsyn is in the care of family and is missing her family. PTO is sustaining them for a couple weeks, but I want to ask for help in the upcoming weeks and months as Richard and Jessica face the unknown. Jessica is a stay at home mom, and will be foreseeing Richard’s care whether in Hospital or Home. Being a 4 person family, the day to day bills don’t stop for cancer, not to mention hospital bills, treatment bills, and other expenses that will start to roll in. Finances are not something anyone should have to worry about during their battle to survive Cancer. Please consider helping, even if it’s just by sharing the link.

UPDATE 3/24/2023: Richard is now currently on hospice care at Duke, with the cancer spreading aggressively and his organs failing, he made the decision to be made comfortable and begin his journey home to the Lord. Richard got to see Karsyn, and his son and wife are by his side and need all the prayers, love, and support you can give. He has fought a hard fight with cancer, and he has confirmed his faith in Jesus, so we know where he is going. I ask again to please consider donating to this family, for any and all expenses yet to come. This has been a quick and fast decline of health and the shock and stress of it all are hitting all at once. Life can be so unfair, but the Lord ask for our Trust not our Understanding.
