Richard Helm Medical & Living Costs While Healing

Hi Everyone,

Most of you know my dad Richard. He's an awesome guy and is loved by family and friends across the country. He's been there for me since the beginning and beyond. Dad introduced me to rock and roll, encouraged me to play sports as a kid, payed for the best guitar lessons a teenager could get in Nashville, took me on many beach vacations, supported me as I explored possible career options in college, and was there when I got married. Richard really has been a great dad through all the different phases of my life.

He recently went to his doctor's office because of trouble breathing. He was then transferred to Vanderbilt Hospital for further evaluation. They discovered he had an aortic aneurism, a bad left ventricle, and a hole in his heart (hence his trouble breathing). Richard spent two weeks in the hospital. The first week was spent making sure they had all the right information before undergoing cardiac surgery. Thankfully, the surgery was successful. But it is still a long road to recovery. The following week Richard had to stay in the hospital to recover while taking pain medication that made him sick and delirious. Richard is thankfully back home now, but unfortunately had a fall in his bathtub that has only increased his pain. We are waiting to hear back from Vanderbilt so that can be evaluated. Richard will have a 12-16 week rehabilitation process along with enormous medical bills to contend with all while not having his regular source of income from the bookstore he works at. This is why I started this GoFundMe. I asked Richard to calculate his medical bills and living expenses for the next four months, and we have finally reached a number we think is accurate.
