Donation protected
On January 20th, our father passed away very suddenly. We were completely unprepared for this and are now left scrambling to pay for expenses related to his death.
Richard J. “Rick” Herbert, beloved father, and pappy, 74, of Greensburg, passed away Friday January 20, 2023 in his home. He was born September 8, 1948 in Greensburg, a son of the late W. Benson Herbert and Grace Lenore (Horning) Herbert. Rick graduated from Greensburg Salem High School in 1966 and proudly enlisted in the United States Army immediately. During his enlistment he traveled to Germany before volunteering to serve in Vietnam. He attended the “College of Vietnam” from 1968-1969 in the 4th Infantry Division before being honorably discharged. He was active in the veteran community for many years and advocated for the rights and wellbeing of his Vietnam Veteran brothers. He was past President of the Vietnam Vets of Westmoreland County and life member of VFW Post #33, Greensburg.
Rick made friends everywhere he went. His warm personality and contagious laugh were loved by all who knew him. He was a kind and loving man who effortlessly took in and loved many as his own family. Everyone who knew Rick knew that always at the center of his world were his beloved children to whom he was a truly devoted, and ever present father.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Benson R. Herbert. He is survived by his three children; son Nathan Herbert (Tiffany), 2 daughters Rebekah Knesh (Mark) and Rachael Herbert-Nalevanko (Joey), his adored grandchildren Chloe, Cayse, and Camron Susman, and Brandon Knesh, along with many ‘adopted’ children, extended family, and friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday with The Rev. Martin L. Wright officiating. Military honors by VFW Post #33 honor guard and interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
