Hi, my name is Rory Sadoff and I am fundraising for RICHARD MIRRA:

Dr Richard Mirra successfully graduated from NYU Dental school in 2001 and began a four year hospital based Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) residency at the Nassau University Medical Center in 2002. He was performing beautifully in his first year until severe headaches led to CT scans and a diagnosis of a brain hemorrhage caused by an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) of blood vessels that had to be addressed immediately . Over the years he had many interventions to address the growth and on going symptoms, all the while successfully completing the residency with stellar reviews. (Not to mention experiencing the loss of his mother at an early age, as well as his ongoing care and devotion to the life-long addiction issues his Dad burdened him with.)

Because of this pre-existing condition of an AVM he was Uninsurable with respect to both life and disability insurance. So he just persevered and felt he could provide for his lovely growing family (wife Noelle and their two young children), by doing what he had done his entire life….work hard and push through any adversity. He did this for twenty years and was making good progress at paying school debt, mortgages, college savings, etc, while experiencing symptoms and undergoing ongoing numerous interventional procedures along the way.

In early 2023 while undergoing further interventions, he experienced a severe Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) more commonly known as a stroke. He has experienced major verbal and motor deficits and with rehabilitation he has slowly recovered the ability to walk and move his right arm with some limitation. His speech and reading capabilities are improved, but still with significant limitations. His prognosis for ever working as a surgeon again and providing for his family in the way he had planned are realistically extremely slim to none. He still has a growing family for which he is fearful for their current and future financial status.

We would like to try and ease the anxiety that it causes for this very fine man, who has already faced more challenges and burdens than many of us could bear.
