Richard Stephen Newport

Hi my name is Taniela, I am a friend of Richard since 2013. Richard was the best friend and soul -mate of my sister n law Tracey Wallace. Richard and Tracey met 11 years ago and found safety and security in each others company at a very difficult time in both their lives. Tracey was escaping an dangerous and abusive relationship and Richard was living with bi-polar depression and struggling to get by financially, emotionally and physically.

Richard was always a very hard worker who spent his first 12 years of his working life working for the Hautapu Cheese factory followed by 15 years for Fonterra Dairy company in Hamilton, NZ. On his days off Richard would also do lawn mowing to help support his young family. Unfortunately due to the oncoming affects of his condition and the pressures of life this put a huge strain on Richard and this led to his eventual mental breakdown. Richards marriage also suffered and this led to the break up of his small family which he always regretted. Richard though to his credit left the house and assets to his former wife and continued to support his children financially when ever he was able.

Fast forward to 2013 Richards meets Tracey and they immediately hit it off as friends and overtime they both came to rely on each other and support each other through thick and thin. Tracey cared for Richard when no one else would, she was there for him making sure he made his Drs appointments and paid his bills on time. Tracey's family was also there supporting Richard who was like a Grandfather to Tracey's young grandson Xander right up to his final passing at Wilson Carlisle rest home on the morning of Saturday 7th September 2024.

Because of Richards limited income and finances Tracey has taken the responsibility to pay for the funeral expenses on behalf of Richard. Tracey has worked full-time as a Kitchen supervisor for various rest homes and facilities in the Waikato area for the last 26 years but the cost of the cremation and other funeral expenses is just to much for her.
