Richard’s hospital fees and his UK repatriation

Hi there, my name is Mark Wheeler, I’m raising funds for my partner of 47 years, Professor Richard Wilson, Shakespeare critic, teacher, and author of over 15 books and articles, who suffered a major stroke while on holiday in Peru with me and two other close friends. That was on September 13 th., since then he has been in intensive care, in a clinic in the town of Cusco, which is in the South of the country. He’s had one life saving emergency operation, and after an induced coma, is now slowly reawakening, but he remains ventilated, and will need anthother cranial operation. Physiotherapy is now essential to attempt to restore as much function as possible.

Apart from his obvious importance to me , Richard has been continuing, since official retirement as the Sir Peter Hall professor of Shakespeare at Kingston University, his final post, after extensive periods at Lancaster and at Cardiff Universities, with energetic academic activities, centred on his own writing, and a programme of events at Garricks Temple to Shakespeare at Hampton, on the Thames, which has attracted an international following.

Richard is an intellect and a personality who could not be more worthy of sympathy and support in his present, awful, predicament, and any funds raised will contribute to his care at the clinic, and to the thing we are most desperate for, his repatriation to the U K, and ongoing treatment.
