Hundreds and thousands of us have been made better people by Rick Brown. His coaching, friendship and love has made us all better in many ways over the years. He is a truly selfless individual who pours everything he is into his family, friends and athletes.
This fundraiser is to assist our friend Rick, who could lose his mother's house on July 11 as he is having difficulties catching up with exemption owed taxes from as far back as 2008--four years prior to his mother's passing and the last two years of property taxes.
Our friend Rick, is someone who is struggling after his mom passed away in 2012, and his dad passed away 2 years ago and where he and his high functioning autistic brother currently make their lives together. His mom first moved to Jacksonville when Rick was stationed in Jacksonville in the Navy, so his mom could be near him. After Rick’s duty station called him away for his service to the United States Navy he eventually came back to Jacksonville to take care of his mom in 2008 before she passed away in 2012.
To give some context of what is now going on, his parents did not know, that they had to declare one State as their primary residence to qualify for homestead tax exemptions when they were separating their time between Jacksonville and New York. Since his parents both passed away, and the house in Jacksonville is not in Rick’s name alone (other family members too) he is not able to take a loan out on the house yet to pay all the back pay for the exemptions owed for not declaring one State of residency. The back taxes go back as far as 2008. The bank or the city will take the house if he doesn’t come up with $9,000.00 minimum by July 11 the total amount due is higher and a plan is being developed for that, even though they own the house outright. He does have some savings he can use and it took a bit of convincing before Rick agreed we could do a fundraiser for him as his pride is suffering in this time. He is used to being the person lending a helping hand rather than accepting. I know in time he would want to pay it back. For those that know Rick, he would give his shirt off of his back for anyone in his life.
It is our turn to assist our friend so he can keep his house!
Please consider donating to this go fund me. You would be hard pressed to find anyone more deserving than Rick Brown who has given so selflessly over the years to all of us.
