Rick King spinal injury fundraiser

Hi my name is Brian King. On Sept 2nd, one week after completing the North coast trail, my dad had a mountain bike accident. He was riding in Cumberland when he crashed, damaging his spine, paralyzing him from the shoulders down. He was flown to Vancouver General Hospital where they did surgery to stabilize his spine and gave him a tracheostomy. At 69 years old, he went over night from being an avid hiker, mountain biker, and guitar player who loved living an active life with my mom, to being wheelchair bound and quadriplegic. He remains upbeat and determined to get the most of out of life, but recovery is tough work. With the help of the GF Strong rehab center he is learning to breathe on his own, control wheel chairs with his mouth, and operate electronics verbally. Instead of living an adventure filled retirement and sharing their outdoor passion with their granddaughter, my parents are suddenly having to learn the new reality of wheel chair bound life. They are having to sell their home as it isn't wheelchair compatible. They need to buy an air bed, power wheel chair, lifts, breathing apparatus and renovations so that they can continue to live together. They would also like to buy a wheel chair accessable vehicle with a lift, so that they can still get out and enjoy nature. There will be many other expenses dealing with my dad's situation and my mom will need a lot of help as she will be dad's primary care giver. Unfortunately the medical items dad needs are very expensive. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated as it will help my mom care for my dad, give them the ability to stay together and allow us to help dad get out and continue to enjoy nature.
