Ricky Davis fights cancer
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kelsi, I am Ricky’s sister in law. I am creating this page to help his family as they are needing an extra hand.
A little about them, then I’ll let Linsey’s message do the talking.
My sister Linsey, who has always been my rock, fell in love with Ricky and soon found out she was pregnant with her first baby. Everything she ever wanted! Skip ahead a couple years, then comes her second. Again, everything she’d ever dream of. She was finally a mom, what she was destined to be. Their family was complete! Ricky goes in for a routine vasectomy and they found a tumor instead. All of us were devastated in the discovery. He underwent surgeries and chemo knowing it would decrease the chances of it coming back to 10%. Unfortunately, he didn’t get so lucky. He now has to undergo a procedure to remove his lymph nodes all along his torso/upper body.
They have never been ones to ask for help outside of the family, but they need it now more than ever. If you could consider donating or even just sharing their story for their family, we would all be forever grateful.
Thank you for your time!
A message from Lins-
March 18th of 2022 changed our lives forever. Ricky had gone in to have a vasectomy since we had decided our family was complete after Keaton. After 10 minutes I was brought in the to room to hear the words nobody is ever prepared for.. It’s cancer. From there it was less than 2 weeks before they had his scheduled for surgery. The pathology came back non seminoma 90% embryonal carcinoma and 10% yolk sac testicular cancer. We were told how lucky he was to be caught in stage 1, his chances of survival are in the 90th percentile but unfortunately he’s got one of the most aggressive forms and he would likely have reoccurrence within 2 years. Chemotherapy would lessen his risk of reoccurrence down to under 10%, so 1 round of BEP was recommended. He ended up doing 3 rounds over 4 months, he was home on disability and absolutely miserable. We had high hopes that would be the end. A year later, he is down 50lbs and has eaten through all his PTO between the 20 plus appointments he’s been to over lymph nodes they’ve been monitoring. We got the news Thursday that he will need a huge surgery, he will need to go on disability again. The surgery is called retroperitoneal lymph node dissection or RPLND for short, the average time on the table is 8 to 12 hours to remove 30 to 40 nodes, 5 day hospital stay, and minimum 6 week recovery but more for Ricky because he is a blue collar worker. We don’t know how we will do it financially getting him to Indiana for the leading doctors to do his surgery, paying our regular bills until disability kicks in (about 5 weeks with no pay until they back pay) and when it does kick in, it’s still only 60 % of his pay? I work part time but no way my income could come close to making ends meet. We wouldn’t normally reach out for help, last time he was out for chemotherapy we just asked our family and it’s a huge help but also I cannot keep it up. Ricky is extremely private, this was such a hard decision to ask for help but we want him to live! He wants to beat this cancer and see his children grow up. Please consider donating and we will keep you updated on this big journey as news becomes available. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
