Rico's ACL Surgery Fund

Rico was abandoned in a play area at the Evanston Animal Shelter in the spring of 2015 when he was just 6 months old. He quickly became stressed at the shelter, licking the bars and walls of his kennel so much that he he would slide around from the slime. Tanya saw how much Rico needed to get out of the shelter and took him out for an afternoon around downtown Evanston. An afternoon turned into a weekend, a weekend turned into two weeks, two weeks turned into...well, you get the picture. By Halloween (and his 1st Birthday), his foster stay had turned into his forever home. Tanya knew what a special guy she had and couldn't let him go.
Rico has been living the good life with Tanya, much happier in a stress-free home to call his own - well, almost all his own. His older brother Copper really runs the place.
After seeing how dog reactive Rico was at the shelter, it is really amazing to see him live peacefully with another dog! That is just a tribute to the wonders Tanya has worked with Rico. As the Evanston Animal Shelter's Canine Director, Tanya also works tirelessly to apply the skills she has learned with Rico to other stressed dogs at the shelter. Tanya spends any time she has outside of nursing school and caring for Rico at the shelter, working with dogs in need of training and behavioral rehabilitation. Rico has even helped in play groups at the shelter!
Rico loves going on walks and having play dates with his BFF and fellow shelter alum Carter, but Tanya noticed he had developed a limp while on walks.
The vet took X-Rays and confirmed Rico has partial tears in both of his ACLs. This means he needs to undergo two surgeries and two recoveries. This is where Rico needs your help. In total his surgeries are going to cost $10,000, and that does not even include the physical therapy he will need after his procedure. This otherwise healthy and young dog needs your help so he can have the procedures done and make a full recovery. He has many years left of playing in the pool and hiking with friends,
but this little superhero needs you to be the hero now.
Please donate to Rico's ACL Surgery Fund. He will have the first surgery as soon as enough funds are raised. All contributions are appreciated! Any funds leftover after his medical costs are paid will be donated to the Evanston Animal Shelter.
