Ride across Europe for METUPUK
Do you want to join me in making a difference? I am thrilled to announce that I will be participating in the Transcontinental Race Number 9, in aid of METUPUK, a Metastatic Breast Cancer patient advocacy group.
The ride is an exhilarating endurance cycling challenge covering thousands of kilometers across Europe. It’s known as the world’s toughest self-supported, non-stop ultra-endurance cycling race.
It’s a unique race that involves a lot of planning as the format has a start – Belgium, and a finish – Greece, and some compulsory checkpoints and parcours which must be completed as part of the race. It’s a challenge that will test my physical and mental limits as there is no support allowed, so one night might be lucky to have a hotel stop, whereas other nights could be under the stars! My planned route involves passing through 12 countries, approx. 3500km and over 40k of elevation ticking off some of the highest alpine passes in Italy.
This endeavour is personal, my sister-in-law, Madeleine, is a trustee of METUP UK and has been living with metastatic breast cancer for five years. Despite enduring gruelling treatment continues to campaign for better treatment and drug access for those with metastatic cancer. She is an inspiration.
More information about METUPUK: METUPUK is a Metastatic Breast Cancer patient advocacy group. We are working to improve outcomes for those living with MBC. We won’t stop until it is downgraded from an incurable disease to a chronic illness. We want people with MBC to gain access to the very best medicines to help them live longer & improve quality of life. We ultimately work towards the day when MBC will be cured. We are here to address issues with secondary/metastatic BC. Our objectives & strategy focus on key areas that need change.
