Ride Not Die: Bicycling America's Longest Highway
Donation protected
One Bicycle Tour of America's Longest Highway. Two Goals: Documenting the historic path of US Route 20, while fundraising for suicide prevention and awareness nonprofits.
One of America's oldest transcontinental highways, at 3,364 miles US Route 20 is also its longest. To my knowledge, it has never been fully traversed by bicycle. I intend to closely retrace the original routing of US 20, circa 1930s-40s, and share its story (and how it ties to my own life story) with a regular blog, many photos, and videos, of the whole experience from this unusual perspective.
The first $4, 400 of funds raised from this campaign will be split 50/50 between my basic travel expenses (mostly bicycle touring gear, and food as fuel - it turns out you need to eat a lot to ride 3k miles!), and donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Funds for this portion of the campaign are needed as soon as possible, as my departure date from Boston is July 14 2019.
100% of funds raised beyond $4,400 will be split evenly between the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Project Semicolon, and The Trevor Project. This part of the campaign is also intended to be, in essence, my stretch goal incentive to successfully complete this journey!
Your support in helping to realize this very personal journey of self-empowerment, as well as helping and inspiring others who may be struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide, will mean the world to me. And help save lives going forward. The slogan of this campaign is short and to the point: Ride Not Die! Please help me make this project a success in meeting both of its goals. Thank You.
