Ride to Darwin for the kids

Hi there,

My name is Dan and on 1st of July I'll be riding a bicycle from Melbourne to Darwin to raise money for the Children's Cancer Institute.

In 2022 I was fortunate to have cycled from Virginia Beach to San Diego and complete my second crossing of the United States by bicycle. At the end of this trip, I had a horrible crash in Los Angeles where I was thrown from my bike and suffered a broken elbow. After flying back to Melbourne, I presented to the emergency room at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and I was provided with the most amazing care I could have asked for. I couldn't be more grateful to the nurses, surgeons and admin staff that put me back together and nursed me back to health in my 3-day stay.

It was through receiving such great care that I knew I wanted to give back to the health system that looked after me.

Did you know that every year a thousand children are diagnosed with cancer in Australia?

My hospital stay lasted 3 days in total and I only needed to go back for check-ups. Many of our kids spend their whole childhoods in hospitals; including 70% of children's cancer survivors who suffer long term side effects of their treatment.

Today I would really like your help to make a difference in these kids' lives by donating to the Children's Cancer Institute.

On 1st of July, I'll be hoping to raise awareness in the best way I know how: by riding a bike a really long distance. The ride from Melbourne to Darwin will last 40 or so days and take me through some of the most challenging and isolating terrain in Australia. The mental and physical challenge of riding a heavy bike 100 km a day will be grueling, but I hope at the end of it we can together give a gift to the bravest kids in Australia.
