Ride with Rick Against GBM!
GBM? If you're anything like me you won't know that GBM is short for Glioblastoma Multiforme. It's a brain tumour. A really nasty one. Not only is it nasty, it is the most common and most deadly type of brain tumour, killing around 5000 people each year in the UK (that’s 5 times more than all the other 130 types of brain tumour put together!).
Average life expectancy with a GBM, from diagnosis, is a mere 14 months.
My friend Rick has one of these and those of you who know him will understand he doesn't do average - he's already smashed the 14 months!
So now's the time Rick and I want to do what we can to make a difference. Supported by Rick, I'm going to pedal my bicycle from Audlem to Royal Stoke Hospital. It's here that Rick and others have received first class care and support.
I'm going to do this 14 times, a total of 420 miles with 21,000 feet of climbing. I've never ridden this far but there is always a 1st! I set off on Wednesday 14th July 21 and hope to finish early evening on Friday 16th July 21, in time for a pint in the pub!
How can you help? We are raising money in aid of Headcase Cancer Trust and every donation will help.
Headcase Cancer Trust is the only Charity in the UK that solely funds research to find a cure for Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) brain tumours
Finally, just as important as any contribution you maybe able to offer, is spreading the word about GBM. Please share this as much as you can, in order to raise the profile of this cancer and help to prioritise finding a cure.
Thank you.
