Ridley Road Stories Part 3 - Community Exhibition
Donation protected
This a participatory arts and community engagement project with the African and Caribbean Communities from Gillett Square and Ridley Road in, Hackney. We take the collective public into account as part of the main reason for our project, giving visibility and agency to them collectively. The project will be characterized by our 3rd street exhibition - 15 documentary stories co-authored with the community and exhibited online and as large-scale bio-degradable posters on the floor at Gillett Square N16 8JN. The art piece will then be documented as a final large-scale installation by using a drone camera. These will act as photographic interventions and oral histories in the urban environment, that address cultural and political issues, with an emphasis on culture, heritage, global and local stories, gratitude, celebration, representation and social justice.
Ridley Road and Gillett Square are currently undergoing development to regenerate the spaces that have been in decline for a number of years. Many of the Caribbean and African, communities who use the spaces (for shopping, socially, to find out information and get sign posted, emotional and psychological support, friendships, histories and exchange skills) feel excluded from the new plans.
We are experienced arts practitioners having produced a range of exhibitions across London. Our two most recent exhibitions being street exhibitions in East London. The first one was funded by The National Lottery and wall space was donated by The Red Cross in Dalston and consisted of 10 large format weatherproof prints with quotes from the participants. The second exhibition was commissioned by Create London.
Your funding will pay for the creation and installation of Ridley Road Stories Part 3 and we really hope you will be part of this important social documentary project.
Thank you so much!
