Riegler Family Memorial Fund

Heaven has a new angel, David Riegler, the beloved husband of Andrea and adoring father of Ashlee.

Many who Andrea has connected to Dave’s “Caringbridge” site know that Dave has endured 12 years of End Stage Kidney disease after a failed transplant, and all of the miserable side effects that go with it.  A couple weeks ago, a crippling pain that was believed to be a pulled muscle turned out to be a misdiagnosed broken back, bone weakness being typical for his condition.  Enduring virtual paralysis, on top of dialysis several times a week as usual, was just the beginning.  It was shortly followed by an intestinal blockage caused by scar tissue, ultimately requiring the surgery they tried to avoid on Tuesday, 9/17.   Everything went well, considering the complexity of a surgery on a man without kidney function and a broken back.   The surgery was successful.

Just over two years ago, Dave was miraculously resuscitated four times from flatline (and not brief ones).  Against all odds, he recovered without brain damage or other effects.   But when Dave saw those Pearly Gates again, he unexpectedly decided it was time to put his life in God’s hands and live in his Kingdom, where there is no pain and suffering of disease.   Dave would have turned 49 next week.

Anyone who knows Andrea knows she has been an amazing, supportive and loving wife throughout the ups and downs of kidney disease.   In the toughest times, she remained positive, and has been Dave’s rock.   While she now suffers his loss, and bears heartache for “Daddy’s little girl”, she still is getting through the loss of her beloved mom earlier this year.

Dave was disabled and uninsurable.  His social security income will now cease causing a financial burden, so now Andrea is stressed with covering the mortgage, college tuition, medical bills, etc. without that income.  Decisions about selling the car, and maybe the house, etc. shouldn’t be made at a time like this.

If you are interested in making a donation, it can help Andrea and Ashlee buy time to pick up the pieces and make those decisions later. At a time like this, friends and family can feel helpless, because we can’t take away the grief they are going through.   However this offers all of us an opportunity to do something that CAN help.

The Riegler family is planning a Celebration of Life for Dave with family and friends in California.

Thank you, and please keep the Riegler family in your prayers during this difficult time.
