Rigo’s Flash Flood Tragedy
Donation protected
After a summer of intense record breaking heat, my dear friend, Rigo Perez, lost most of his belongings to torrential rain fall last night that caused flash flooding throughout the Old East Dallas neighborhood of Dallas, TX. The water was so powerful that it forcibly broke his front door open after midnight with a wild rapid of water gushing uncontrollably throughout the entire bottom floor of his apartment. With such dangerous force and little warning for the area, nothing much could be done, little was saved (clothes, artwork, and family photos). The water level rose as high as 2.5ft throughout his apartment, leaving Rigo to wait it out in the upper loft section, as he watched and recorded the destruction.
Unfortunately he did not have renter’s insurance and most of his belongings (furniture, bed, books, equipment, mementos) are now water damaged or filled with mud and dirty debris from the street and have to be thrown away.
This made national news and Rigo’s interview at his apt can be seen below with MSNBC news now.
Rigoberto Perez has an incredible attitude and is spinning this personal tragedy as the path towards a fresh start. Let’s all support the guy who has helped us out when we needed a ride, or help moving into a new apt, has given us a place to crash (that orange sofa), or has let us throw a birthday party in his space. He is generous with his energy and time, always available to lend a helping hand to family and friends while demonstrating humor and strength of character as a positive role model for his son, Henry.
Big thanks for all of your support to this exceptional friend experiencing this unexpected tragedy.
RIP to Rigo’s apartment ❤️
