My name is Diane and I am a good friend of Rik. I am creating this gofund me because Rik is facing a lifechanging event that is putting him through a financial hardship. I know we can all come together to help our friend and relieve the endless stress he is under.

A couple weeks ago, Rik started falling ill. Thinking it was a sinus infection, he continued to try and work.... To no avail. After consulting a local physician, he noticed a blister on his foot that was getting to look pretty bad. Having gone through something similar two years ago, a friend transported Rik to the Ann Arbor VA to investigate.

Upon arrival in the emergency room, the doctor noticed infection had set in. After x-rays and cats cans along with blood work, it was determined that he had a very fast traveling infection known as sepsis.... Or infection of the blood. The very next morning to head off the infection, it was required that the VA had to remove his right leg up to the knee.

This has put Rik into a very bad predicament, no longer having a job to supply income, no ability to drive at the moment, not able to maintain his apartment due to inability to pay the rent and the apartment not handicap friendly and the fact he has 6 weeks remaining in the hospital for rehab.
