Riley's 'No-Pain' Campaign

Donation protected
Hey everyone! Riley is a 1.5 year old Lab Mix. He's my first animal ever and I rescued him when he was less than 4 months old! We QUICKLY became best friends!! But that's like every dog and their new owner...right?! We have spent every single second of every single day together since February 16th, 2019. I work at a DCFS licensed home child care, and Riley goes to work with me EVERY day. Over the last 15 months, Riley has created undeniable, heartwarming, and important relationships with each and every child.  I have watched the kids and Riley grow and learn new things together each day! Riley teaches these kids patience, and how to interact appropriately with animals. But, he also shows them unconditional love (and so much more). They absolutely adore him, and he LOVES them even more. He's so gentle and loving, as the kids are with him!  But when the weather permits us to go outside, he runs (or tries his best) around with all the older kids! He is off leash trained, and loves being free with them! He's very self-regulated, so he plays and does what he can within his comfort level. He provides so many laughs, and priceless memories! Personally, Riley is also my ESA (Emotional Support Animal), and my best friend. He has changed my life, as well as the kid's lives, in so many ways in just the last year. I'm absolutely devastated knowing he is suffering so much. Recently, Riley woke up and was not able to walk. In a complete mess, I rushed him to the Vet to get X-Rays, where I received some heart-breaking news. He has a very severe case of Hip Dysplasia. It's much less common in a dog so young, but they said it's possibly from some bad genetics, or the birthing process. Since he is a rescue, I have no way to be sure.  I took him to College Of Veterinary Medicine- Purdue in LaFayette, Indiana. There, I was told Riley is in an incredible amount of pain based how how severe the x-rays looked. I have the option to do a total hip replacement, but that would be $10,000 dollars for both sides.  Because I am a full-time student, and my full-time job has been affected by the COVID-19 (as well as so many others) I opted to do a surgery called FHO. Both surgery's goals are to do the same thing: eliminate the source of pain. The FHO is $2,200-$2,700 dollars per side, estimated to be $4,400-$5,400 total. Although, with the FHO surgery,  Riley will have a funny walk for the rest of his life. My goal, as a Dog-mom, is to give him the best quality life I possibly can. He is 100% healthy other than his hips, so he will live a long happy life once he gets all fixed up! He will be able to walk, and run, and play again when his 2 week recovery period is over! The sooner we are able to get this surgery, the better, considering his intense pain level! I have been managing his pain with medication and holistic options, but that only can take him so far! This sweet pup deserves to be in NO PAIN!  That being said, I know times are really rough for so many right now. Any help is really appreciated! Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for your support! Riley is more thankful than he can possibly express! ❤️
