Riley's Year at the Kanakuk Institute

I hope that each of you are doing well and that you are experiencing the Lord’s love in rich ways as you reflect on this Holiday season and dream about the New Year! As 2018 comes to a close, I cannot help but reflect on the many ways the Lord led and cared for me over the course of this past year. It is crazy how quickly time flies!
Over the past two years (yes, two full years), I have been in prayer over what my next step after college should be. I was torn between going straight into accepting a full time teaching position, attending a church residency program, or attending the Kanakuk Institute. The Lord has moved in incredible ways over the past few months, causing me to officially make the decision to attend the Kanakuk Institute this coming Fall. As eager as I am to begin my teaching career, I know that taking a year to attend the Kanakuk Institute is invaluable and will ultimately help me to prepare for using my teaching platform as a form of ministry.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Institute and what all it entails, I would love to give you some insight into what it is, its purpose, and how it operates. The Kanakuk Institute is an eight-month long program during which I will be intensively studying the Bible and undergoing leadership training. The Institute’s mission is to “equip men and women with Biblical skills for a lifetime of ministry.” No matter what my future after graduation entails, I firmly believe that the foundation provided by this program is essential for my growth as I transition into my career and desire to make an impact for Christ.
A typical day at the Institute consists of classes and Bible studies. Discussions will include contemporary issues, theological doctrine, and an inductive study of several books of the Bible. The Institute will be two semesters with differing intensives. In the Fall semester, we will focus on the Old Testament and Bible Overview, while in the Spring we will focus on the New Testament and Theology. Throughout the year, I will be conducting a vision statement in which I will apply what I am learning to what the Lord’s call is for my future.
As I prepare for this year of leadership training and Bible study, would you commit to praying for me on a regular basis? I need an army of prayer warriors pleading on my behalf because I know I will face countless obstacles as Satan attempts to thwart the growth of God’s kingdom. Will you also prayerfully consider supporting me financially throughout this year? Each student is asked to raise support for the cost of attending the Institute. The support-raising process provides hands-on training in stewardship as I raise the $12,250 needed to cover the cost of tuition, room & board, academic materials & resources, and living expenses. I am trusting God to provide for this need, and I am asking you to partner with me as I commit to investing this next year as a time of leadership training and mission work. The Kanakuk Institute has been a dream of mine, but the only way to accomplish this is with some financial support.
