Riley’s Trike
Donation protected
Hello, we have created a go fund me page to help fund a trike for Riley.
Riley is a very happy 5 year old who loves to explore and enjoy the outdoors, unfortunately Riley has cerebral palsy which limits his movement. His cerebral palsy means he has stiffness throughout his body especially his legs. He is about to have an operation where he will have botox injected into his muscles, there is no cure for cerebral palsy however his physio and walker helps improve this.
Riley now being 5 would love to learn to ride a bike alongside his sister and friends, however an ‘normal’ bike purchased from a shop would not be suitable for him and accessible for him his needs, Unfortunately the NHS does not fund this type of equipment for bikes and trikes due to it being so expensive.
While in a physio session I spoke to Riley’s physio and asked her if we could be referred for an assessment, which happened. Riley loved the try out trike that was brought to the session by a representative from the suppliers for a ‘TomCat’ trike, he rode it around the whole centre, he was so happy. The trike in total costs £2179, this includes a quick realise frame that is customised for Riley, full carer control which will help regulate his speed and help with breaking, dual pedal drive which allows fixed and free wheeling, foot shoes with straps, leg supports and cuffs, foam sleeves within the shoes to allow his feet to be straight and a backrest covered in foam with a waist strap to assist his balance.
A trike would help Riley massively with his physical needs along with his social and emotional needs. The exercise would help strengthen his muscles and allow him to have the same opportunities like other children to cycle with friends and family.
Any help would be appreciated to help Riley with cycling this summer!
Thank you in advance for any contribution, it means so much to us.
