Rilynn's Saving Grace

Donation protected

We are greatly moved by the outpouring of love and support during this incredibly trying time! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for sharing Rilynn’s story and for helping surround our little fighter and her family in ways so that we can focus on her health and recovery!

Over the past few months, we noticed something was a bit off—she occasionally began complaining about being nauseous, would stop in the middle of playing to throw up, and would intermittently zone out. The doctor’s opinion was to keep an eye on it, with mention that it could very well just be a common virus.

On Sunday, June 27th at around 3:00am, Rilynn was found in bed suffering a seizure and was rushed to the local hospital with the seizures continuing back to back. Once the local doctors were able to calm her, she was transferred to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. After having a spiked fever in the ER, doctors ran an EEG test that detected seizure activity.

On Monday, June 28th—Rilynn’s 4th birthday, an MRI scan was performed which showed a mass the size of a ping-pong ball on the temporal lobe of her brain. This was when doctors determined that Rilynn would have to undergo brain surgery.

On Wednesday, June 30th at 6:30am, Rilynn began to undergo brain surgery. 9+ hours later, our little fighter was wheeled into recovery. The doctor sat with us, remarked that Rilynn handled everything exceptionally, and explained that the tumor is believed to be non-aggressive. It was hoped that the entire tumor had been removed, but another MRI test would have to be done.

On July 1st, the second MRI test results came back and showed that the tumor had not been completely removed, at the risk of causing further damage to the brain and Rilynn.

At this point, we are awaiting lab results (which typically take 5-7 business days) to determine if the tumor is cancerous and whether they can remove the remaining portion with medication or if Rilynn will need to go through another surgery.

Every dollar is going toward Rilynn’s care, her aftercare, and toward support for the family.

Each day brings us closer to a clearer understanding of what lies ahead and we will be updating this page as we learn more.
