Rina's Spinal Cord Injury Recovery
Spende geschützt
On Sunday June 30, 2019, Rina was injured in a tragic car accident altering her life forever. Rina was on her way to a work event in Charlotte, NC when two vehicles collided at a high rate of speed and then smashed into her car. Her vehicle flipped over multiple times, and Rina was extracted from the vehicle by paramedics and rushed to an emergency room in Winston-Salem. She sustained a serious injury to her spine, displacing vertebrae T11 and T12. Eight of her ribs were also fractured, and one of her bruised lungs filled with fluid. She underwent immediate spinal surgery lasting over 4 and a half hours, and was transferred to the ICU. Rina is paralyzed from the waist down, but because her spinal cord wasn’t severed, there is hope that she may one day recover some mobility.
Miraculously, Rina sustained no brain injury and has full use of her upper body. She is alert, engaged, and motivated to start the hard work of rehabilitation. She is surrounded by family and friends, all giving her the support and encouragement she needs to get back to her career as a financial advisor and life insurance agent and her passion for classical Indian dance. She spent many years training in this artform, and her ultimate desire is to dance again one day.
Rina is strong, brilliant, creative, and driven. She will begin rehabilitative work on her spine soon after being released from the hospital’s trauma unit.
The long road of recovery will be expensive, even with partial insurance coverage. We are so blessed that Rina is with us and are asking for your generous support to help us raise funds to assist with the costs she will incur. These costs will include medical expenses, a specialized wheelchair, 24-hour immediate care, transportation support, and more. The full costs of what Rina will need to recover are still unclear, but we are already exploring the likely requirement for retrofitting her home to make it ADA (American Disability Act) compliant and installing the necessary hardware to accommodate Rina’s disabilities.
Rina is a devoted daughter to Rajen and Saroj. She is passionate about dance, art, music, and helping others. Living in Greensboro, NC for many years, Rina and her family have been committed to uplifting the community through service, the arts, and leadership through their careers. Rina has an older brother, Robin and younger sister, Rachana and she is a pillar in our family. We are committed to helping her achieve her dreams, and despite this setback, know that she will continue to manifest miracles towards recovery.
We are blessed to have all of you offering to help in some way. Making a contribution to this fundraiser is the most effective way to help the family address the mounting costs resulting from the accident and injury. We express our gratitude for your prayers, your help, your love and support through this challenging time.
Any donation will make a difference in helping Rina.
