/r/IndyCar Offseason Charity Drive
Tax deductible
Hey everyone.
This offseason, the /r/IndyCar community has decided to run a charity drive in support of the SeriousFun Childeren’s Network, an Official Charity of INDYCAR that is also supported by current NTT IndyCar Series Champion Josef Newgarden. SeriousFun Children’s Network, founded by Paul Newman, is associated with 30 camps and programs for seriously ill children across the world. More information about SeriousFun can be found at https://www.seriousfunnetwork.org .
Because SeriousFun is a recognized charity on GoFundMe, all donations will be sent directly to SeriousFun without any additional action on the part of the mods. In other words, we will not be personally handling any of your money. Because we haven’t done this before, we set the initial goal at a modest $2,000, but we hope to surpass that goal. The charity drive will run through race day of St. Pete weekend, which is March 15.
In order to promote awareness of the charity drive, we have set up a series of AMAs with people in the IndyCar industry. As of now, we hope to hold AMAs with the following people:
· IndyCar and motorsports reporter Matt Weaver
· Arrow McLaren SP drivers Pato O’Ward and Oliver Askew
· Plus ongoing discussions with some others
More details will be available in the coming weeks. Each respective question thread will be posted roughly a week before the AMA. Please note that we are still working out the details with some of the participants and the list could change, but we feel comfortable posting this list at this point.
Finally, we would like to thank INDYCAR for helping reach out to the teams and drivers about participating in the AMAs. Given the long off-season, we thought this was a perfect opportunity to both recognize Josef Newgarden’s championship and raise money for a good cause, all while keeping the fans and the subreddit engaged. Without INDYCAR’s help, we would not have been able to pull off the entirety of this vision.
St. Pete will be here before we know it, but hopefully we can harness our community to do some good before we get there.
