Hello Everyone, this is Tammy, Rio's Mom. So many of you know that Rio has been having some major health issues. She got Covid about a year and a half ago and went from a healthy young adult to a person struggling with her health overnight. Rio had no pre-existing conditions. Now she is on heart, blood pressure, steroids, allergy, and other medications. Rio has just been diagnosed with long covid and Pots Syndrome. Pots Syndrome causes a lack of blood in your system and creates havoc in the body. Pots can cause heart and blood pressure issues, dizziness and fainting, pooling of blood in extremities, difficulty breathing, stomach issues, problems sleeping, pain, tremors, brain fog, memory issues, body temperature regulation issues and difficulties with adrenaline. These are all symptoms Rio is dealing with.
This illness has had a significant impact on Rio not only physically but mentally, emotionally and financially as well. Rio has always been a hard worker; she put herself through college while working full-time as a retail manager. She had found a job in her field but, unfortunately, was let go from her position due to the company's failure to accommodate her by allowing her to work from home.
This illness has caused major medical bills, raised Rio's cost of living and caused a dramatic decrease in her income. Rio has been allergic to things she usually eats, so she has had to go on a special gluten-free, soy-free diet, which is very expensive. She has to drink special hydration drinks, which cost about fifteen dollars a case; she goes through about 6 cases a week. One of the things we have found to help is IVs with special vitamins mixed in; these IVs cost $300 a month and are not covered by insurance. This is just a small example of the health costs she is facing. We are hoping our friends and family will consider helping her with this fundraiser to assist her with her medical needs and living expenses while she continues to try to navigate her health issues. We are hoping to raise $6,000, which would help alleviate the financial burden she is under. Rio had been saving up to buy a house after college, and her illness has eaten up all her savings. Rio is a kind and compassionate person who always goes out of her way to help others. It is not easy for us to ask for help, but we hope you will consider helping her. We appreciate all your help and support. Thank you!
