RIP Scooby Van :(

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Linda Pearson, and I am the owner of a spray-painted Scooby Van. I have been driving a spray-painted van like this for over 12 years. During Covid, I turned it into a mobile Little Free Library. When the news media got ahold of my story, it quickly exploded, so I formed a nonprofit to help ensure kids get books to read.

The Scooby Van is a 501(c)(3) literacy nonprofit whose mission is to bring the community together to ensure every child owns a book since there is a huge need to fill.

In San Antonio, we partnered with KLRN Television, the county, the city, museums, small businesses, etc. and have been having great success until now.

The van is my personal vehicle, and I pay insurance for it, maintain it, etc. in support of the Scooby Van's mission. The nonprofit can NOT own the van since it can not obtain auto insurance (seriously... no one can figure out how to "classify" us for coverage). The only way it can operate is for it to be my personal vehicle that I insure. Even if we could get insurance, since the nonprofit is new, there is not adequate and consistent funding to pay for a loan, insurance, gas, maintenance, etc.

In the last two years, I have personally put in over $12,000 to maintain the vehicle since it's an older model and it's only valued at $5000. Now, the transmission is shot and I will not put another $6000 into it, only to have something else go wrong again (like it needing a new engine, etc.).

It's time for her to retire and move on to a newer and more reliable vehicle to continue to support the community.

This fundraiser covers the cost of a new vehicle (2012 Honda Pilot) plus taxes, title, fees, etc.), the cost of painting materials, and fundraising fees.

Any donations you make to this fundraiser will NOT be tax-deductible even though they indirectly support a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.  To make a tax deductible donation, visit our social media sites at @scoobyvansa and click on the latest Go Fund Me post and that will take you to the right place.

If you follow us on social media at @ScoobyVanSA, you'll be able to watch the new Scooby Van take shape once it's secured and the painting begins.

Thank you very much for your kindness and support.

Linda
