Ripped of by Roof Bandits

We had shingle and gutter damage to our home during a July storm. We filled a claim with our insurance company and after a visit from the adjuster 
received a check to cover repairs to our roof and guttering. Since I often shop at the Hurstbourne Ln. Home Depot store near me I contacted them to refer any reputable contractors. The lowest bid was from an individual who represented himself as someone who had found our name on the Home Depot list. Workmen arrived on 8/8/18 and began removing the old shingles and guttering. The progressed to applying tar paper and were preparing to replace damaged fascia and soffit prior to replacing the shingles and gutters. That was the last work done to the home.
We made several attempts to contact the contractor by phone. We were assured that they would finish the work. But have not seen any repairmen since then and recent storms have caused damage to the interior of our home.
Our insurance company, Liberty Mutual sent someone out to "tarp" the roof after a heavy storm that further damaged the ceilings. We have asked them for help but the simple explanation of their help has been "sorry about your luck." The most recent problem occurred tonight when part of our kitchen ceiling ended up in the floor.
We found that the address listed for contractor is a mail box in a UPS store. Further calls to the contractor have been ignored. When we found that the contractor had cashed our check for cash we were concerned. Further attempts to contact them resulted in no responses and phone numbers being out of service.
My Wife and I are both retired and have a limited income. She has had serious medical problems that have taken most of our savings and put us in debt. I'm A disabled veteran and unable to do any of the work myself. We do not have the money to pay for the repairs and unless we can get help we will have more damage OR MAYBE LOSE THE HOME WE WERE MARRIED IN AND HAVE LIVED IN FOR 27 YEARS.
