Ri's YOLO Tall Ship Adventure 2017
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Rianne Yeboah-Cornelius.
I am an ambitious and driven 16 year old A Level student from Lambeth in South-East London. I have a passion for adventure and travel, and a determination to realise my dreams and live a life less ordinary - to be a positive role model and example of my generation.
I have successfully applied for and been granted - a place as a sail trainee crew member, to take part in the first leg of the Tall Ships Regatta, which departs from Royal Greenwich to Sines in Portugal, 15th April 2017 until 30th April 2017. The regatta, organised by Sail Training International, will sail from Greenwich to Quebec in Canada, to mark the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation.
Unfortunately, I do not qualify for assistance to take part, because I am not a local young person from Greenwich, and therefore need your kind help to raise the necessary funds, to secure my place aboard a tall ship and cover my return journey home. I need to secure this amount by Jan 2017. My weekend job and fundraising cake sales at my 6th form, will not generate anywhere near enough, in time.
This will be a phenomenal privilege, once in a life-time opportunity and a fantastic personal challenge. I have never sailed before (but am looking forward to it).
As a pursuit that's not typically associated with young people of colour - in particular 'females'; I see this experience as not only incredibly character-building and life-enriching, but, a great way to learn new skills, meet and make different and new friends and crucially - an opportunity to inspire other young people to Carpe Diem (seize the day) and ''Go for It!''.
As not many young people from inner-cities, like myself, have the opportunity to get involved and experience such pursuits, whilst being able to positively challenge negative stereotypes about urban youngsters.
I will be immensely grateful for your support - any amount you can donate gets me a step closer. I propose to print a t-shirt featuring all my sponsors names and to wear it onboard as a 'thank you', and to also vlog the journey, so you can share in my adventure too.
Thank you in advance for your kind support.
