Rise from the Storm - Saving Family in Marikina
Donation protected
Heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Ulysses caused severe flooding in Marikina City, Philippines on Thursday, November 12, 2020. Sadly, this news story has hit more than just our timelines, but it has hit our family!
Many of you know our mother, Remy Sweet, a community advocate and quiet supporter of many people in the Michigan Filipino community, was crushed to see her sister's recent Facebook messages.
Carol Manlangit, my Tita (Aunt) and my mom's younger sister, and her children, Abigail, Roel, Rachel, and Joseph have been tragically displaced as a result of the disastrous flooding.
Thankfully, her daughters were able to evacuate before the storm, but Carol, her son, and the dogs had to stay behind. The girls packed as many belongings as they could and left their home and family business, their "Sari Sari" store, to weather Ulysses. Quite literally.
For two days, the flood pushed Carol and Joseph into the second floor of their home, where they waited until the water levels lowered.

Everything got destroyed.
Their home, their place of business, which is on the first floor of their home, their clothing, furniture, savings, and all of the other life comforts got swept away.
Now all that is left is the ruins to rebuild and layers of water and mud throughout their home. They survived, but Carol is not well and was injured in the aftermath.
It is not like our family to ask for help, BUT we need it. We do not have the cash flow available to send them everything they require.
It is not like our family to ask for help, BUT we need it. We do not have the cash flow available to send them everything they require.
We are banding together to do what we can, Remy has sent her full paychecks and now we are reaching out for your help.
We are trying to raise $15,000 within the calendar year to help with medical expenses, rebuild their home, provide fresh dry clothes, new furniture necessities, and to help build back their business.
We are beyond thankful for your time and appreciate you reading this.
Anything will help, even just a share!
Please help us save our family!
