Rebuild Homes of Siargao Super Typhoon Survivors

Siargao is in a state of calamity. After being directly hit by super Typhoon Rai (locally Odette) on December 16, 2021, the once vibrant surfer's paradise and top tourist destination has been completely devastated. There is currently no running water, no electricity, and no signal. The storm ravaged the whole island, leaving broken glass, structures, rusty metal sheets and uprooted trees among others.

 

We at Rise Siargao (https://www.facebook.com/risesiargao/) are raising funds to continue what we have started which is to rebuild the homes, medicate the sick and needy, bring water filtration systems, solar-powered lights, create soup kitchens and give hope to its people.

 

We will begin with rebuilding 16 homes in the neighbourhood of Marajaw Karajaw in Purok 5, General Luna, Siargao with the hope of going further than this. We have set an initial aim of PHP 3,000,000 and will continuously update you with a transparent accounting of costs.

On December 16, 2021, Typhoon Rai directly hit Siargao and devastated 80-100% of the homes and structures. There is currently no water, no electricity and with little to no mobile signal. We at Rise Siargao want to make an immediate change in the lives of these people that are badly affected starting within our community. Our first and ongoing project is to build homes ground up that are completely damaged and to repair those that still have their structure. We have 16 homes in our community that we are working on as of the moment. We are highly focused on the “Bayanihan Act” which involves the community in rebuilding their homes- including clearing up all the debris, creating an edible Garden, and soup kitchen during the construction.  We also plan include water filter systems and solar lights in the community. We would like to ask for your kind help and donation for us to expand this project even further and to give shelter to as much of the locals who have lost their homes and sources of livelihood.

Dec 23, 2021 update: We are humbly requesting donations in cash for now due to the logistics of bringing in kind to the island from Manila. We need to purchase medicines, canned food, rice, water filtration systems, rubber boots, solar-powered lights, transportation, construction tools, and materials from other areas such as in Butuan or Cagayan and ship back to Siargao.

 

We are in Surigao gathering materials, tools, rice, and medicines until tom, then we head back to Siargao for a few days and will be offline.
