Rising Kickboxer Needs Your Support
Please read and share my story. Thank you so much!
In November 2017, I moved to Virginia and started boxing at a local fitness club. I initially joined for exercise (I was 260+ lbs), but I quickly fell in love with the sport.
In April 2018, I began training at Kaizen MMA, an internationally renowned mixed martial arts (MMA) school founded and run by Sensei Nima Mazhari.
At Kaizen, I started training more seriously and began training in kickboxing, karate, and jiujitsu, in addition to boxing. I began to compete and won multiple golds.
In August 2019, I competed at the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) National Championships. I weighed in at 165lbs; I had lost 100lbs in less than two years.
I won first place in K1 Kickboxing and became a National Champion!----------------Pre-boxing in 2017 to 2019 WKA Kickboxing National Champion----------------
Shortly after becoming a National Champion, I accepted an offer to fight at Thai Championship Boxing in November 2019. I continued training and sparring with my team.
But one night after training, I got a call from my family. My younger brother had suffered a medical emergency. Two days later, he passed away.
When I came back to training a few days later, my coaches asked me, "Do you still want to fight?"
I honestly didn't know if I had the strength. But I also knew that if I let my coaches know how I felt, they would encourage me to pull out. I said yes.
Three weeks later, I stepped back into the ring.
I won by TKO in the second round!
I've now been invited to join Team USA at the WKA Asian-Pacific Championship in March 2020. This event will take place in Thailand, and I will be staying to train and compete for two months. This is an incredible opportunity, and I couldn't be more grateful!
I'm not one to ask for favors, but I need help. As an amateur fighter, I'm not sponsored. Also, Team USA is not covering any costs. Neither is the World Kickboxing Association (WKA).
I have to cover all costs on my own, including airfare, room and board, visa fees, event registration, and more.
I've already put down several thousand of my own money; I'm working hard to earn and save, but I can't do this alone.
Even if you can only donate $1, please do. In Thailand, $1 buys two gallons of potable water and a small meal. Thank you so much for your support!
Whether you can or cannot donate, please share my story! And thank you. I couldn't do this without you all.
Love,
Sarah Bonney
