Rising Sun Performance Company celebrates 18 years of making our signature raw, evocative, engaging and authentic theatrical experiences!  

We are beginning our 2019 Season and continue our focus on work that celebrates and highlights female and underrepresented voices & stories and make a strong commitment to work that promises gender parity in role representation both onstage and off.

2019 promises RSP and our artists some amazing opportunities, including a full season artist residency on Governors Island, inclusion in the curation of the 14th St Y as a part of their “War & Peace” themed season and the continued development of

Our season on Governors Island will present 20 + new plays in development supporting the work and talents of nearly 200 Artists over the course of 3 months! We present these works to audiences for FREE and provide subsidized 35 hours of rehearsal time and production support to Artists!

The year ahead promises to be filled with many exciting moments featuring the work of our talented ensemble, playwrights, directors, and an immensely talented design and support team.

Now We NEED YOU! 

The 2019 Season will include Two full-length works and an ongoing residency on Governors Island:

·         The ongoing development & transfer of Elephant by Eva Meiling Pollitt

·         The NYC Premiere of Friendly’s Fire by John Patrick Bray

·         Full Season on Governors Island which includes Free Performances of:

·         Two Play for Young Audiences (FREE Performances)

·         Laboratorium- A New Play Incubator featuring new artists and plays every week

·         And Island Works- A New play Festival of Full Length and Devised Immersive pieces.

We have existed this long by working in the most cost-effective and innovative ways possible. By the grace of donors and grants, donated space, in-kind costumes, and with the exceptionally hard work of a 100% volunteer-run staff we have presented over 100 productions and the talents of 1000+ theatrical artists over the past 17 years.

However, as cost effective as we run our company, we still need a significant amount of funding in order to function as a viable company in NYC.  

In addition to the basic production costs, we now have our home on governors island which requires upkeep, improvements and general operating expenses. Additionally, we will be pursuing extended life and transitions for Elephant and Friendly’s Fire.

IN ORDER FOR SEASON 18 TO HAPPEN, WE MUST RAISE $25,000 OVER THE NEXT 60 Days.
